This guide will help you to identify the fastest DNS servers available for your network to utilize. Namebench runs a fair and thorough benchmark using your web browser history, tcpdump output, or standardized datasets in order to provide an individualized recommendation. The namebench program is completely free and does not modify your system in any way. You should only follow the steps in this guide if you are a system administrator or have been directed to do so by a Freshphone support representative. 


To find which DNS server is best for you, follow these steps.

  • In the left menu, there will be links to download Namebench. Choose the one which corresponds to your operating system. For the purpose of this guide, we will be using Namebench for Windows.



Step 3

  • Download, install, and start Namebench.

Step 4

  • When Namebench launches, just click Start Benchmark.





Step 5

  • Namebench will now run. It may take several minutes to finish checking nameserver availability.

Step 6

  • Namebench will open a page in your browser listing the optimal DNS servers when it finishes.

NOTE: Your optimal server will likely be different than the example.
